Groove Cruise Solo Traveler's Guide

Want to go on Groove Cruise, but don’t want to go solo? Come join us anyway!

You might feel a bit nervous at first, but the GC crowd is super friendly and welcoming. Plus, with thousands of attendees on board, you’re bound to meet someone awesome! Yes, even if you're a little shy!

Going solo means you get to explore on your terms. Not feeling a set? Leave! Want to check out an event? Go! Hear some music that catches your ear? Follow your feet to that stage!

You can do anything and go anywhere when your heart desires. Your entire festival experience is completely up to you.

9 Tips To Make The Most Of Your Solo Adventure On Groove Cruise

1. Go with an open mind

Remember that it’s totally okay to go alone. Go with the flow and curate your adventure. We're sure you'll go home with some pretty cool stories!

Solo travel is also an amazing way to learn more about yourself. It might even surprise you! You might find out that you like a genre of music that you thought you didn’t. Maybe you'll click with people who you thought you didn't have anything in common with. Or maybe you’ll realize you have an adventurous side after trying some activities.

2. Dress up

If you’re comfortable with people approaching you, dressing up can help make it easier to break the ice. Costumes, statement t-shirts, bold makeup, fun accessories, and totems can all help spark conversation. Wearing your country's flag is another good idea, too!

Most importantly, wear your best smile! You're more likely to get approached if you give off a good vibe and appear friendly.

3. Introduce yourself

People at festivals are typically super laid back. No need to be shy! Feel free to introduce yourself and talk to anyone who seems interesting.

Not sure what to say? You can start by asking someone where they’re from or complimenting their look. Ask if this is their first GC, which artists they’re here to see, and how it’s going for them so far.

4. Bring gifts

Another great way to break the ice is with gifts. It could be glow sticks, Kandi, glitter, or whatever you want (but keep it small)! Just walk up to the person whose vibe you like, introduce yourself, and let things flow from there.

5. Avoid using your phone!

Sometimes our phones feel like extensions of our hands, so we know this might be hard. But, if you want to attract people, being on your phone a lot could make you seem less approachable.

Anyway, being on your phone takes away from the experience. Don't let the screen keep you from living in the moment!

6. Take care of yourself

Drink plenty of water and remember to rest. A festival can be draining, so take lots of breaks and pay attention to your body. Pace yourself each day to avoid getting too tired or too hungover.

If you need to sit out a few sets to recuperate, fight the FOMO and nap! It’s better to rest and recover rather than exhaust yourself and have to miss even more events.

Don't forget to pack your medications, supplements, and motion sickness remedies if you tend to get seasick. We’d also definitely recommend some electrolyte packets and ibuprofen, too!

7. Meetups

Tons of people come solo to GC, and you can even make some friends before boarding.

Join and introduce yourself in our official Facebook groups to get to know some people and maybe even find a roommate. We’ve got a group just for solo travelers. We’ve also got one for ladies and another for virgin attendees.

8. Trust your instincts

If you feel uncomfortable with a person or a situation, leave. No matter how fun something might seem, if it feels off, walk away. Listen to your gut and always put your safety first. If you need help, please don't hesitate to ask our staff or security.

By the way, if you don’t want people to know you’re Groove Cruising alone, you can always say that you’re waiting for your friends or meeting up with them later.

9. Dance like no one’s watching!

One of the easiest ways to meet new people is by dancing in the crowd. You'll be hitting it off with new people before you know it.

Don’t hold back, let's see your best moves!

Remember, there’s no shame in dancing alone. See you on the dance floor!
